This is a newbie-level quest which can be completed in its entirety in less than a 15 minutes, and gives a pretty good reward, especially for low-level and low-pooled or newly-rolled characters. It is found by completing the [[Quest: Grunfeld Bogs : Eckard the bog dwarf]] questline.
Finding Ahsia
The Kobolds Lair sits 4n4w3n5ws from Ruushi Temple. The area details are below:
Area name: The Kobolds Lair Minimum suggested level: 90 Minimum suggested remort: non-remort On continent: Gedaon
As you enter the small area, follow the water's edge south, and then several rooms east. you'll see the $ and an ambiguous mob standing there:
[ Consider ]: A friendly teacher [ WARNING!! ] A friendly teacher is a MASTER mob. It WILL slay you if provoked.
Looking at "teacher" shows this:
A friendly teacher is a human: This friendly teacher strolls amongst the the meadow grass in a calm demeanor that indicates he has a thirst for knowledge and an eagerness to teach others what he has learned. Left Weapon rugged hand Right Weapon rugged hand
Congratulations! You've found Ahsia. Just standing in the room will trigger the next quest step and reveal her identity.
First Riddle
Right off the bat, you complete Eckard's questline and start a new one. You'll recieve experience for that one while starting the new one:
A friendly teacher reward experience: +5,000 (learn curve: 9,595, role-play: 1,226) experience! You have completed a quest (type quests completed for more details). To see if this quest NPC has more quests, type: check <NPC name>. Ahh, I see you have my piece of parchment there. Well, you have found me - but did you happen upon me or did you decipher my code? Well, if you have deciphered the message then would you be so kind as to tell me what my name is? I will ask you for your answer soon. You have opened a quest (type quests open for more details).
Remember decoding the riddle in the last step? You know the name. If you've forgotten, quests open
. If you don't have time: Ahsia. If you stand in the room long enough, she'll prompt you again, or you can check teacher
.
A friendly teacher tells you, 'Have you identified my name from the parchment on the back of the paper?' If you've identified the teacher's name, use the 'answer' command to store the name of the teacher. You have 30 seconds to respond.
Giving the command answer Ahsia
satisfies him. You're on your way to the next riddle... not before getting a reward though!
Excellent job - you don't know how pleased I am finally be in the presence of some intelligent life. You see I love the Kobold and they have been good to me but they are one sandwich short of a picnic if you get my drift. Oh I'm sorry for ranting on I'm sure you'd like some sort of reward. A friendly teacher reward experience: +50,000 (learn curve: 12,520, role-play: 2,126) experience! Your rp points have been altered by 5. You have completed a quest (type quests completed for more details). To see if this quest NPC has more quests, type: check <NPC name>.
The Second Riddle
Wait for a game tick or check teacher
, and you'll be moved to the next quest:
Hi Doos, I hope you are ready for my next quest. Three is the key to deciphering this code. Tell me what word is encoded in the following text. BACK HOME DOME I will ask you for the answer in a little bit. You have opened a quest (type quests open for more details).
Where would you even begin? Sending the command quests
gives an extra hint:
The Kobolds Lair : A friendly teacher 2 - Ahsia has given you another code to decipher. The following text has encoded a single word. BACK HOME DOME Ahsia has given you a hint that 3 is the key to deciphering the code.
"3 is the key" is the only extra hint... but you've already been given the answer, haven't you? Three times! The hint is "encoded" and "code" in the quest prompt, but in your quests open, the hint's last word, "code," gives it away, too! Take the third letter from each of those words: BACK HOME DOME. C O D E is the code! Use the answer command Your answer is: code
Excellent job - you will go far in this life. So many people seem to just throw their lives away here in pursuit of destroying all that they touch. For instance warriors are constantly in here killing these poor Kobolds. Oh I'm sorry for ranting on again. Here is your reward for deciphering that code (+8 int for 30 days). A friendly teacher reward experience: +3,000,000 (learn curve: 204,270, role-play: 61,131) experience! Your rp points have been altered by 5. You have completed a quest (type quests completed for more details). To see if this quest NPC has more quests, type: check <NPC name>.
The Third Riddle
These questions haven't been particularly hard, but the teacher still has a few lessons to teach you:
Hi Doos, I hope you are ready for the next deciphering lesson. This next code also spells one word. Please decipher the code to let me know what the word is. 13 5 10 1 20 8 I will ask you for the answer in a little bit. Hint: each number represents one letter of the word. You have opened a quest (type quests open for more details).
With the hint, it's not a stretch to get to the riddle's answer... it's a simple replacement cipher. A=1, B=2, C=3, etc. Decoding the letters gives you "mejath." Wait around, or quest check
to get the prompt:
A friendly teacher can open player quests. A friendly teacher can open or complete at least one quest you have not completed. A friendly teacher acknowledges your request to quest continue. Your action history and answer (help answer) have been cleared. Have you identified word that has been encoded in the text? If you've identified the encoded word, use the 'answer' command to store the word. You have 30 seconds to respond.
A simple one: Your answer is: mejath
.
Excellent job Doos. You may find that a lot of Nodeka is not always what it appears to be and looking below the surface is what you may need to do in order to survive. That is what I hope that I have taught you today by giving you these codes to solve. For right now I believe we are finished. In the future I may be able to teach you more - but for now you are ready to venture on your own. A friendly teacher reward experience: +60,000,000 (learn curve: 3,909,378, role-play: 1,201,136) experience! Your rp points have been altered by 2. You have completed a quest (type quests completed for more details). To see if this quest NPC has more quests, type: check <NPC name>.
Morality Quest
For the last quest in his line, Ahsia offers a morality quest:
Your action history and answer (help answer) have been cleared. A friendly teacher tells you, 'Uhh Doos, may I ask you a question?' You see I've been teaching here among the kobolds for quite some time. To me they are like family. Even though they are dumber than dirt and have this horrible habit of eating.. uhh... you don't want to know. Anyways, that's not what I'm trying to get at here. What I'm saying is that the kobolds are living in such horrid conditions that I'm afraid if a stranger comes into town carrying a plague it would completely wipe out the kobolds population. What I would like to know from you is how you think I can prevent this from occurring or at least minimizing the risk if it does occur. You can answer Ahsia using one of the following responses (use the ANSWER command to answer - you have 60 seconds to respond, if you can't respond in that time, you'll be asked again shortly): 1 - Setup a triage center to help the kobolds sick for they are in need of treatment even in the absence of a plague. This would create an opportunity to steal from the hospitalized. 2 - Setup a guard post to check travelers for any obvious signs of plague. If they show signs of sickness do not let them in the village or a penalty of death will be brought upon them. 3 - Allow the kobolds to live as they have for all these years and don't try to impose your will (for good or evil) upon them. 4 - Seek the sick and plague stricken from other towns and bring them here for the kobolds to look after. Tell them unless these men are cured you will bring a mighty wrath upon them. After all of the kobolds have died a slow painful death you will smile and say good riddance to these pitiful people. 5 - Concede it is not your place to act as an authoritarian, although you may have good intentions. Instead, inform the kobolds of their danger and give them the opportunity to save themselves. 6 - When the kobolds take ill, ensure that you only allow a handful to die of the illness. Yet, do not stop the plague, simply slow it down so the plague slowly eats away at the kobold population. This will allow the entire populous to see each other suffer. Ahhh, the beauty of it all. You have opened a quest (type quests open for more details).
Your answer to this quest will award a morality point. If you're trying to lean your character one way or another, pay careful attention to your answer. It's assumed that the following morality will be awarded with each choice:
- - Moral
- - Moral
- - Immoral
- - Immoral
- - Moral
- - Immoral
Doos, the character performing the quest at the time of writing, was trying to stay true impartial, hence the answer: Your answer is: 6
A friendly teacher reward experience: +120,000,000 (learn curve: 7,809,378, role-play: 2,401,138) experience! A friendly teacher tells you, 'Beyond treacherous. You are sick, sick beyond description.' You have completed a quest (type quests completed for more details). To see if this quest NPC has more quests, type: check <NPC name>. You receive a morality point: Nefarious.
That's the end of the questline for Ahsia in The Kobold's Lair, well done.
