Transmutation is the ability to take one or more gemstones and transform them into a different one. This action typically incurs a heavy cost of base materials, but could yield the results you're looking for in a crafted item.
Process[edit]
Scrolls of transmutation can be bought from Osbert in Aur-Vindi. An example of one is below, using examine scroll:
a scroll of transmutation: deep emerald: Constructs: [ deep emerald ]. Use 'read' to activate. Materials required: 1 x < gemstone > jade inlay 1 x < gemstone > soft citrine 1 x < gemstone > pale ruby 1 x < gemstone > faded amethyst 1 x < gemstone > pale iolite 1 x < gemstone > smoky quartz 1 x < gemstone > blue zircon 1 x < gemstone > polished coral 1 x < gemstone > amber droplet
If you have all of the required gemstones and read the scroll will be consumed along with all of the listed materials, and you will receive back one gemstone.
