An affect is an important part of a character's current status.
From "help affects:"
Affects: Usage: affects <target in room> Usage: affects <target in room>, <type of affects to list> Type of affects to list: all attack defense lock resist special statistic Example: > aff nijlo (lists all affects on character nijlo) > aff nij, special (lists special affects on nij) > aff nij, r (lists resist affects on nij) > aff nij, lock (similar to typing 'prevention') This will compile a short list of all affects a being is currently affected by, in addition to the Nodekian time remaining for each affect, measured by solar phases (minutes). When affects fall, the creature the affect is falling from will be given a message as well as the room he or she is in. Quite possibly the most important thing to understand about affects at Nodeka is that they roll. This idea is fairly simple, but often misunderstood. What this means is that if you have two affects which are seemingly the same, Nodeka will roll to the next affect if the first check fails. For example, if you have the racial "natural flight" and the spell "flight" is bestowed upon you, Nodeka will attempt both if the first fails. If, for example, you attempt move north, Nodeka will check your racial flight and if that check fails, Nodeka will then roll on to the next flight affect and check that. This means that having duplicate affects is almost never useless, unless you have 100% in an affect bonus. If that is the case, it *may* be impossible to fail, leaving the other affects unchecked. For details on what each affect does in list, simply type: help affect: <affect name> The affect name is not the ability name, for example: Ability name Affect name -------------- ---------------------- cloak - cloaked 102% (24:40) For more information, see: help preventions
